Saskia vive e lavora a Maastricht. Da bambina, amava scolpire oggetti trovati per strada o nella natura, e la sua famiglia la portava alle mostre d'arte. Queste prime esperienze le hanno fatto capire il suo desiderio di diventare un'artista. Al liceo, desiderosa di condividere il suo lavoro anche al di fuori della famiglia, ha reso le sue sculture indossabili e ha creato i suoi primi gioielli.
Si è laureata all'Accademia d'Arte di Maastricht con una laurea in educazione all'artigianato. Dopo essere entrata nel mondo del lavoro, ha trovato poco spazio fisico e mentale per creare la sua arte. La scomparsa di sua zia ha stimolato il suo bisogno di esprimere le sue emozioni, spingendola a iscriversi a un corso di oreficeria e ad allestire uno studio nel suo seminterrato. Nel 2017 ha vinto il Jewellery Award per la sua serie di spille Beloved Memories, che ritrae persone care. Questo riconoscimento includeva un corso di classificazione dei diamanti presso l'HRD di Anversa. Ha iniziato lavorando principalmente con metalli preziosi, per poi tornare alla scultura e ampliare la sua gamma di materiali per la creazione di gioielli.
Le crescenti preoccupazioni ambientali l'hanno spinta ad adottare pratiche sostenibili, incentivandola a innovare
oltre il semplice utilizzo di materiali riciclati. Abbracciando materiali diversi da metalli preziosi e gemme,
dimostra come la consapevolezza ambientale possa guidare l'esplorazione creativa e il successo. Nel 2026,
ha vinto il premio per il miglior gioiello al concorso di gioielli artistici Amber Trip a Vilnius, in Lituania.
Saskia lives and works in Maastricht. As a child, she loved sculpting with found objects from the street
and nature, and her family took her to exhibitions. These early experiences made her realise her desire
to become an artist. In high school, looking to share her work beyond her family, she made her
sculptures wearable and created her first jewellery pieces.
She graduated from the Maastricht art academy with a degree in handicrafts education. After entering the
workforce, she found little physical or mental space to create her own art. The passing of her aunt
spurred her need to express her emotions, prompting her to enrol in a goldsmithing course and set up a
studio in her basement. In 2017, she won the Jewellery Award for her brooch series Beloved Memories,
which portrays loved ones. This achievement included diamond grading training at HRD Antwerp. She
began by working primarily with precious metals, then shifted back to sculpture and expanded her range
of jewellery materials.
Growing environmental concerns inspired her to adopt sustainable practices, pushing her to innovate
beyond just using recycled materials. By embracing materials beyond precious metals and gems, she
demonstrates how environmental consciousness can drive creative exploration and success. In 2026,
she won the Best Jewellery Award at the Amber Trip art jewellery contest in Vilnius, Lithuania.
