玉言(Jade Words) 2025
Project title: 玉言(Jade Words)
Project statement :
Silver as bone, jade as soul.
These three rings compose a symphony of jade and silver through actions like rotation, shaking, and tapping, creating a contemporary interpretation of the “voice of jade.”As stated
in the Book of Rites · Jade Chapter: “A gentleman compares virtue to jade.” The ancients treasured its sound — clear but not piercing, harmonious but not noisy — thus likening jade to
moral virtue. This collection redefines that concept through a modern design language: sound is no longer merely a symbol of ritual, but a medium for emotional, mnemonic, and bodily
expression. The voice of jade flows between the fingers, resonating to the touch, transforming jewelry into a novel expression that merges hearing, action, and culture.

My name is Ni Yunyun.I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Jewelry Design from Shanghai Jianqiao University in 2025.
The ring series I'm submitting for this competition was also my graduation project, featuring minimalist design style that
reinterprets traditional Chinese jade culture through geometric forms.
Professionally, I have mastered metalworking techniques, jewelry design, and 3D modeling, with particular passion for handcrafting - a process where direct material interaction allows each piece to embody my time and emotions.
During my studies, I was awarded the University's First, Second, and Third Class Scholarships, and honored with the "Outstanding Graduate" title. My art jewelry series "Egg, How Does It Become a Pear?" was permanently archived in the
university library for its innovative craftsmanship.
Additionally, I served as a teaching assistant at FABO Digital Fabrication Studio (STEM education institution), which expanded my professional skills and interdisciplinary perspective.
Mentor Profile: Hong Shuyao, Master of Arts and Crafts (Modern Metal Art direction) from Nanjing University of the Arts.
