Wandering Maze, 2025
Text
Optional Description - Techniques and Materials
Created through 3D modeling and printed with PLA, the pieces are composed of modular rectangular units arranged at right angles to form spatial maze structures. Brass was used to fabricate stair-shaped units as visual accents, while airbrushed pastel tones and hand-painted check patterns add a sense of playfulness and rhythm.

Project Title Wandering Maze
Project Statement
This collection is inspired by the dreamlike world of Monument Valley, where pastel-toned architecture and surreal spatial illusions create mazes that are not fearful or confusing, but playful and serene. I was especially drawn to the inner experience of standing at a crossroad—not the aerial view of a maze, but the personal moment of pause and decision. Using long rectangular units bent or stacked at right angles, I created layered, modular structures that suggest endless possibilities. These forms, paired with soft gradients of airbrushed color and rhythmic checkered patterns, bring movement and lightness to the pieces. Rather than presenting the maze as a space of frustration or loss, I wanted to express it as an open and imaginative space — a setting for gentle exploration, curiosity, and joy. These are mazes to wander, not escape; to explore, not endure. I hope this playful quality is felt by the wearer too — that each turn, each pathway, becomes a small moment of delight.

Short CV
I am a contemporary jewelry artist based in South Korea. I received my MFA in Metalwork and Jewelry from Kookmin University. My practice explores spatial metaphors and poetic structures through wearable forms. Drawing inspiration from maze-like architectures, I reimagine jewelry as a space of choice, direction, and discovery. I aim to expand the narrative of jewelry beyond ornamentation into a reflective, experiential form.
