NoteTurbinaria’ is a jewelry capsule collection inspired by Turbinaria, a genus of colonial stony corals in the family Dendrophylliidae. Common names for this genus include disc coral, scroll coral, cup coral, vase coral, pagoda coral and ruffled ridge coral. These corals are native to the Red Sea, Indian Ocean, Japan and the south Central Pacific Ocean. This collection is a personal tribute to a wonderful and complex animal species that is a fundamental part of the marine ecosystem. Coral reefs are indeed only 0.1% of the earth’s ocean floor, but support 25% of the world’s fish population. Unfortunately, these extraordinary ecosystems are greatly reducing due to rising temperatures, pollution, intensive fishing and acidification of the seas. Every piece is made of glass beads embroidered with polyester thread in an oxidised brass structure.
