Vive e lavora a Milano.
"Vedo ciò che ci circonda come un equilibrio di elementi, la maggior parte dei quali incerti. Attraverso il mio lavoro riconosco le contraddizioni quotidiane dell'essere umano, che trasformo in delicati gioielli e oggetti.
Così facendo, lavoro con materiali inconfondibili che sfidano le leggi della realtà che conosciamo, giocando con la loro natura e ricercando un dialogo visivo tra gli opposti.
Tutte le mie creazioni nascono da un lungo processo di sperimentazione materica, con l'obiettivo di sovvertire il modo comune di percepire.
Dal 2013 ho scelto il vetro come materiale prediletto, che rimane per me una costante metafora del corpo. Ho continuato a studiare e sperimentare nuove tecniche di lavorazione e trattamento del vetro, applicandole a progetti fortemente incentrati sulla percezione e sull'interazione."
Federica Sala (nata nel 1986 in Italia, vive e lavora a Milano) ha conseguito un Master in Gioielleria Contemporanea e Ornamenti per il Corpo presso l'Alchimia di Firenze (2015), con la supervisione dell'artista orafo messicano Jorge Manilla, e un Master in Fashion Design presso il Politecnico di Milano (2011). Dal 2010 al 2012 è stata assistente dell'artista italiano Giorgio Vigna. Dal 2016 al 2018 è stata responsabile del dipartimento di gioielleria presso lo IED di Milano, dove attualmente insegna. Le sue opere sono state esposte al Mad Museum di New York, alla Society of Arts and Crafts di Boston, all'interno del SOFA di Chicago, al Museo ZIBA di Praga e al Museo CODA, tra gli altri.
Con la sua opera "Unbearable lightness" è stata candidata al Premio Stanislav Libensky nel 2015.
La sua serie di opere True Lies ha vinto il Premio Internazionale Marzee per studenti laureati nel 2016.
Nel 2017 il suo lavoro ha ricevuto una menzione speciale al Premio Enjoya't Professionists.
"I see our surroundings as an equilibrium of things, most of them uncertain. Through my work I recognize human daily contradictions which I turn into delicate jewelry pieces and objects.
In doing so, I work with unconcealable materials defying the laws of the reality we know, playing with their nature and looking for a visual dialogue between opposites.
All my pieces are created after a long process of material experimentation in order to subvert the common way of experiencing.
Since 2013 I chose glass as my elective material which stays for a constant metaphor of bodies. I’ ve been kept on studying and experimenting with new techniques of glass processing and treatment applied to projects strongly focused on perception and interaction."
Federica Sala (b. 1986 Italy, lives and works in Milan) holds an MFA in Contemporary Jewellery and Body Ornament from Alchimia in Florence (2015) tutored by the Mexican jewellery artist Jorge Manilla, and an MA in Fashion Design from the Politecnico in Milan (2011). From 2010 to 2012 she has been the assistant of the Italian artist Giorgio Vigna. From 2016 to 2018 she was the Head of the jewellery Department at IED in Milan where she currently teaches. Her work has been exhibited at the Mad Museum in New York, at the Society of Arts and Crafts in Boston, inside SOFA in Chicago, at ZIBA Prague Museum and at CODA Museum among the others.
With her piece “Unbearable lightness” she was nominated for the Stanislav Libensky Award in 2015.
Her body of work True Lies won the Marzee International Graduated Prize in 2016.
In 2017 her work got a special mention at the Enjoya’t Professionists Award.
